Changes to Prescription Ordering

Posted by: sarahchalmers - Posted on:

We have increased our current turnaround time for the processing of repeat medication prescriptions to five working days.

We have done this to allow the clinicians more time to review the requests, reducing the risk of any errors and aiming for a smoother, safer process for everyone. We have had to deal with an increase in problems with medication supplies and we do not have the capacity to deal with short notice requests to change prescriptions.

How can you help? What do you need to know?

* Order your medication when you have a minimum of 5-7 days supply left.

*Please only order the medication you need – you can help to reduce waste and save money that can be spent on other NHS services.

*If you forget to order your medication, we will be unable to issue a supply in less than 5 days. Please ask your pharmacy to issue an emergency supply whilst we process your late request.

*If there are problems with the supply of your medication, please be prepared to enquire about supply with your nominated pharmacy or take your prescription to another pharmacy who may have stock.

*To check if your medication is ready for collection, please speak with your pharmacy.

If you have questions about your medication?

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

It is your responsibility to order your medication in time. You can do this via:

The NHS App: where you can order and track your requests – this is the by far the quickest way to order your medication.

SystmOnline.

In writing to the practice, clearly stating your name, date of birth, and the list of medication you require. Or via the the prescription request form available at reception.

In person, by speaking with a member of the Admin & Reception Team.

Please Note: We do not accept prescription requests over the telephone in the interest of safe prescribing.

If you require existing repeat medication in an emergency, you may contact NHS 111 emergency prescription service. You cannot use this service to get: controlled drugs that require identification to collect OR antibiotics for a new or recent problem.
