Dear Patient

You may well be aware of news about some changes at Whyburn Medical Practice, and we thought you may appreciate some more information.

In December 2018, the GP partners at Whyburn gave six months’ notice to NHS Nottingham North and East Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which manages primary care in Hucknall, that they wanted to end their contract for running the practice.

This decision required the CCG, working with NHS England and the existing practice partners, to find an alternative provider to take on the Whyburn contract. Following a robust procurement process, Primary Care Integrated Services (PICS) were chosen as the successful new provider of Whyburn Medical Practice.

Who are PICS?
PICS is owned and managed by Nottinghamshire GPs and are based in Nottingham. All the work they do is for the local NHS by delivering healthcare services for local people.

PICS already deliver a number of primary care services in Nottinghamshire – including supporting practices to work better in Hucknall and Gedling – and also run GP practices in Newark, Mansfield and Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

The team is made up of NHS professionals, all employed on NHS terms and conditions, that are passionate about providing high-quality care. You can find out more about PICS and the full range of NHS services provided at

What does this mean for me?

The most important thing is that for all Whyburn patients, it will be business as usual and services will operate as normal.

PICS will ensure that your practice will carry on as before when the current contract expires. While the practice will be run by different GPs from June, the vast majority of the staff you see will be the same.  Services will continue uninterrupted and you do not need to do anything.

PICS are committed to sustaining services at Whyburn and looking for opportunities to improve and are keen to engage with patients about their plans and are already meeting with the Whyburn Patient Participation Group.  PICS will use the practice communications channels to keep patients up to date. We appreciate that this is a time of change and I hope that the information in this letter has given you assurances about your GP Practice. If you do have any further questions, then please contact the Nottingham North and East CCG Patient Experience Team on 0115 883 9570 or email
