Remember if you can’t make it – PLEASE cancel your appointment.
We have been running ‘sit and wait’ clinics since June and we are getting some excellent feedback from patients.
Please read the 'Walk in Sit and Wait Clinic information Booklet' here that explains how these clinics are managed.
Despite us having a number of on the day appointments, we understand how frustrating it can be when you ring at 8 o’clock in the morning and sometimes all our appointments are already taken! This new sit and wait clinic is a trial to see if we can address your urgent needs on the day of your choice! We acknowledge that sometimes its not an urgent problem, but it’s the only day which you have free time to come and see the doctor. This is why any problem is valid for the sit and wait clinic. Our aim is to see every patient on the day of their choice and prevent you from having to ring back again and again to try and secure an urgent or convenient appointment.
We understand that these clinics mean you may have a longer waiting time than usual and we acknowledge this may be frustrating in some cases but we aim to make your wait as comfortable as possible.
We would like to thank you for your continued support at Whyburn Medical Practice and welcome your feedback and any comments on the new Sit and Wait appointment system.
You can now book routine GP and Nurse appointments in the evening, at weekends and over bank holidays in your local area.
Pre-bookable appointments are available Monday-Friday, 6.30pm-8pm, plus weekends and bank holidays and you can be seen by a GP, Nurse or Healthcare Assistant.
To book your appointment, contact the surgery during normal opening hours. Please be aware that the appointment may take place at another GP Practice in the area.
If you need urgent medical advice when the surgery is closed, you should continue to call NHS 111.
Please inform the receptionist if you feel you need to be seen urgently and we will try to accommodate you.
For urgent appointments and home visits you may not be able to see the doctor of your choice.
An appointment is required to see the doctor or nurse. We offer morning and evening appointments that can be booked in advance.
We offer 10 minute appointments for our doctors and nurses.
The practice offers a number of appointments which you can book up to four weeks in advance.
We will always endeavour to let you book an appointment with the doctor of your choice at a time that suits you best. This is obviously not always possible especially at times of high demand (usually around the holiday periods) and when doctors are on holiday.
We aim to see you within 20 minutes of your appointment time. If this is not possible, you will be told the reason for the delay.
Our Practice Nurses are available by appointment for injections, diagnostic tests, smears, new patient checks, routine blood tests and blood pressure checks. We also run clinics specifically for diabetes, asthma, well baby, ante-natal, Coronary Heart Disease, hypertension and advice on stopping smoking.
Telephone Advice may include queries about a prescription, a test result, a hospital appointment, a referral, a form that needs to be completed or advice about a minor ailment. Please call and ask the receptionist who will be able to help you.
Telephone Consultations with your Doctor
If you only need advice from the doctor or nurse you can book a telephone consultation by calling the Surgery. The doctor will call you back and discuss your problem at an allotted time. Please make sure you give the correct phone number to the receptionist.
Telephone appointments are only available during surgery hours.
Advice is also available from the NHS 111 service by calling 111 from your landline or mobile phone.
If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. Alternatively bring along a member of your family or friend to your appointment.
If you are unable to attend for your appointment please tell us in good time so that we are able to offer another patient the use of that appointment.
